Then one day before a concert, like hours before, a friend bumped into me, I staggered and busted a post off the Conn. I didn't know any better, so I played that Conn for a few years with a nice Meyer hard rubber mouthpiece. It was almost the *exact* same tenor that I played in High School in 19. He bought an affordable tenor sax, which I inherited when he died. Late in life, my Dad joined a small jazz band formed from guys in his retirement community. I don't play a lot of alto any more, but for the occasional Pops concert with my symphony. I used to feel like I had a second-rate horn, back in college when everybody who was "good" in the college scene was playing Mark VI's, but I could never afford one, and honest truth was that I liked the sound. He bought it used in 1941, so it must have been a quick turnaround from the original owner! LOVE that horn. I've played my Dad's 1939 Buescher Aristocrat alto since high school.
#BUESCHER TRUE TONE TRUMPET REVIEW SERIES#
I just got the Series 9 A late last year and I LOVE that horn.

I play a mid 1960's Selmer Series 9 B-flat and A clarinets. I hope to be performing a couple of newly written clarinet quintets with a local string quartet in the Fall. I play chamber music, symphonic stuff and jazz, though right now working again on my jazz chops. Well, I'm as serious as you can get without making a living at it. I'm primarily a clarinet player, and a serious one. Like lots of band kids of my era, I fell in love with Maynard Ferguson. I also had an extended flirtation with the trumpet though college and for about 6-7-8 years afterwards. I'm 62 years old and I've been playing woodwinds for over 50 years.
